During
the fall of 1981, approximately six members called together a meeting with the
intent to organize a small group of people interested in archery. The response
was overwhelming and by the winter of 1981-’82 we had approximately 70
members.
By 1982-’93, we had 85
members and started work on becoming legally organized, incorporated, and a
state-sanctioned archery club. By 1983-’84, we had this completed and a
membership of over 100 archers.
From 1981 until today we
have grown from 6 eager members to a present roster of approximately 150
members. In the years previous to 1991, all our activities were held at the
Reading
Community Center
. In 1991, that all changed with the acquisition and remodel of our present
building located on County Road 57 south of
Worthington
. We currently have 12 Winter League teams and 4 youth League teams that
participate in league shooting from December to April.
Since our beginning, we
have exposed hundreds of youth to the sport of archery, archery hunting, all
safety rules on the range and in the field, and sportsmanship. Many of the youth
are Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts and other are in the Community Ed classes. With
the help from other local organizations, we furnish and maintain all of the bows
and other equipment for these activities along with donating our time to teach
and supervise them.
Our club consists of old
and young, men and women, singles and families, and we take pride in our
community involvement with youth.
